Dog Maintenance and
Responsibilities
Wheaten Terriers are like all dogs: grooming, exercise, and
proper nutrition combined with quality time with their owner
are required for a healthy and happy Wheaten.
Grooming
There is much misinformation about what is required to keep a
Wheaten's coat. If you want the book look, then daily grooming may be required; otherwise,
the Wheaten can be easily kept with ten to fifteen minutes of
brushing or combing 2-3 times per week. (More information

Show dogs should be professionally groomed, but a pet owner can learn the techniques if one wants to invest in a quality set of clippers.
(More information coming soon)
The coat should not be continually clipped short to avoid grooming responsibilities since the dog's coat does serve some useful purposes, notably protection and insulation. The coat protects the dog from cold weather and moisture. Clipping the
coat too short, too often, will can cause a change in the coat's texture and it will lose its silky shine.
Exercise
What exercise requirements does a Wheaten Terrier have? The Wheaten is an active breed and requires regular exercise. A fenced yard where they can run is ideal. One should plan a regular schedule for recreation and enjoyment.

Softies are a dog which enjoy jogging with their owners. Even tag along in the car,
to the bank (for the dog biscuit). Many banks now offer dog biscuits for K-9’s for their drive-thru banking window customers. If yours doesn’t yet, refer them to a bank which
does.
Nutrition
Keep a fresh supply of clean water in front of your puppy/dog at all times. Feeding should avoid cheap grocery store dog food. Puppies require extra nutrition from a quality puppy
food. Adult dogs need a balanced professional maintenance dog food which will allow them to be healthy and live a long life. If any dog does not respond well to any particular food, change the food. Beware of table scraps for they are a dog’s
junk food and doggie treats should also be used sparingly.
